Excursion destinations in the surroundings of Mayrhofen
Boring days in the Zillertal? There is no such thing! Our region offers the perfect excursion destinations for vacation days that filled to the brim with fun and excitement. We have put together some of the highlights for you here:
Eagles's Stage on the Ahorn
The Ahorn lift will take you up Mayrhofen's local mountain directly to the Eagle's Stage. The name says it all, because visitor's can enjoy an exciting bird of prey show with eagles, buzzards, and eagle owls.
After the bird of prey show, you can take a side trip to the nearly self-supporting viewing platform "Freiraum", where you can enjoy a fantastic view and relax in the café-bistro.
ErlebnisSennerei Zillertal
The ErlebnisSennerei Zillertal allows unique insight into the processing of hay milk. On 6,000 m2, you can learn how hay milk is made into yogurt, cheese, butter, and other products.
Samples of delicious specialties are offered!
At the dairy's farm, you can observe goats, sheep, and cows up-close. The ErlebnisSennerei Zillertal is located 2.5 km north of Hotel Waldheim.
Steam train of the Zillertalbahn Railway
A ride on the historic steam train is perhaps the most beautiful way to take a tour of the Zillertal.
The 32 km long route leads from Mayrhofen to Jenbach.
Spannagelhöhle
Now we head underground: the Spannagelhöhle is not only the largest rock cave in the Central Alps, but it is also the highest publicly accessible cave in Europe! On a tour, you can explore the first 500 meters of the 12 km long cave and discover stalactites, marble inclusions, and glacial mills.
The best way to reach the cave in the Hintertux glacier is by car (ca. 30 min. ride), and you can then take the lifts in Hintertux.
